August 16, 2012 Rose des Champs, the Quebec-based garden knows a thing or two about roses. In fact, it has quite a few showstoppers in its collection that are sure to add a lot of rose flower goodness and magic to any Canadian garden. Here are some choice picks that are sure to bring any garden to life.
Cinco de Mayo floribunda
This rose grows in Zone 5 and was awarded the All-America Rose Selections award in 2009. This rose is descended from the 2006 winner, Julia Child. It has a nice fragrance reminiscent of freshly cut apples. Its blooms have a unique mix of rusty red-orange and smoky lavender.
If you are looking for a rose that sings songs with its rich coloring, try the Céline Dion shrub rose. This Zone 5 hybrid is the product of crossing the Tropicana with the Fifth Avenue. It has a fiery red-orange color and quite fragrant. What's more, it is also pest and disease-resistant.
If you're looking for an older hybrid, try the Elina hybrid tea rose. This flower was originally introduced in 1983 in the UK by Dickson Nurseries. This rose is beautiful at every stage of its development-from bud to full bloom. It sports 35-petal flowers with a faint fragrance.
