Quick tips on lawn care

July 30, 2012

Normally, when people use the words 'lush' and 'ecologically friendly,' they are talking about two different things. Use these tips to develop a lawn that is both lush, engaging, and easy on the eyes while being responsible in respect to the environment. It is possible to have a lush lawn while being a part of the solution to climate change and resource management instead of being part of the problem.

First, instead of watering in the heat of the afternoon and using misty sprinklers, water your lawn in the morning or after sundown. This is a great way to save water while keeping your lawn lush. Keep in mind that this watering technique is best only for times when the skies are clear and it is warm out. If it is cool and cloudy, your lawn may be at risk of powdery mildew.

It only takes one inch of water every week to keep your lawn lush and green. Make sure to water deeply. Water less but water deeply. Many people waste a lot of water by just watering the top of the grass-most of the water evaporates before it reaches the lawn's root system.

When mowing your lawn, keep in mind that you need to keep it longer than usual. Why? This helps your law retain its moisture and prevent it from burning out. It will also be in stronger health so it can fight off invasive weeds.

Don't use pure nitrogen liquid fertilizers. Instead, use time-release granules that will feed your turf over time. This allows for an even growing pattern and allows you to save on fertilizer.
