The Basics of Flower Styling

June 4, 2012

One of the easiest ways to arrange flowers is to work with just one type of flower. The trick is to get 3 or 4 mixed flower bunches and separate them into different groups. This produces different flower posies. Invest in the right kind of container or vessel and use just one type of flower. This is the real secret of those gorgeous magazine floral arrangements.

For roses, cut them short and arrange them in a bowl to draw the viewers' attention to the rose blossoms instead of their stems. For a nice touch, put a single rose in a little tumbler on your window sill.

Snap dragons are great flowers because they are cheerful yet inexpensive. They look best when put into a pail type vase or cylinder. The wider the container's opening the more flowers it will require. Put together a bouquet in your hands and make sure it fits snuggly into the container's mouth.

Hydrangeas announce the summer like few other flowers. Use these easy to handle mopheads for a wide variety of vessels and arrangements. Try arranging them on a salad bowl, drinking pitcher, or soup toureen. Using a vessel with a tight middle saves on the amount of flowers.
