For centuries, gardeners have brought extra joy and enjoyment to their gardens by nurturing bunnies, bees, birds, and other small wild creatures. Doing so added a touch of the wild to a cultivated environment. Unfortunately, due to the massive habitat loss caused by modern agriculture and civilization, attracting wildlife to your garden is not a question of adding a little more color or joy to your plot but it has become an obligation.
By restoring wild habitats, you benefit not just yourself but also animals. Small wild creatures will not only survive in your area but will actually thrive if you give them shelter, protect them against predators, give them ample water and provide a reliable source of food. Cultivating wildlife also helps gardeners eliminate chemical pesticides since many reptiles, bats, and birds help eliminate pets that would otherwise eat garden plants. If you have a slug problem, try cultivating toads and frogs. Your ponds will remaining slime-free and clean.
How do you attract wildlife to your garden? Plant shrubs and trees to attract butterflies, bees, and birds. Add stones, logs, and other hiding places to attract bus, lizards, and other reptiles. Add tree stumps to attract small mammals. Build a stream or a small pond if you would like water bugs, frogs, and toads. Plant weigelas, hollyhocks, and fuchsias to attract hummingbirds.
Turn your garden into a relaxing wildlife refuge with the right plants and accessories.
